Various Types Of Aromatherapy Scents

Everyone loves scents and if those scents have healing powers like the aromatherapy scents, the fun of using them is doubled. In recent times, life has been reduced to a mundane routine of doing everyday chores of work in an extremely competitive world. This leads to unlimited stress and no one gets the time to ‘stand and stare’. People resort to taking prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs to tackle tension but this only gives temporary relief. Aromatherapy scents provide an ideal solution as they are very effective in relaxing the body and the mind.

What Is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the therapy used to treat various physical and mental disorders with the help of aromas. These aromas are derived from essential oils which are themselves produced from various aromatic plants and herbs. When these essential oils are allowed to permeate the surrounding atmosphere, the aromas are inhaled by the people in the room leading to improvement of physical health and enhancement of beauty and well being. These aromatherapy scents play an important role in relieving tension and providing relaxation to the mind.

Various Types Of Aromatherapy Scents

Aromatherapy scents can be obtained through various types of media which contain the essential oils such as candles, soaps, shower gels, room sprays, potpourri, diffusers, bath mousses etc. Different essential oils have different properties and the aromatherapy scents that are obtained from these essential oils offer different benefits. In general, however, these scents are used for reducing the following negative states of mind: anxiety, anger, lack of confidence, loneliness, depression, lack of concentration etc. Aromatherapy scents help in the attainment of a happier and healthier life and for maintaining a healthy relationship with your relatives, friends and everyone else in your life.

Different aromatherapy scents have various specialties depending upon the properties of the essential oils from which they have been derived. The most important essential oils and their properties have been described below…

1)     Lavender: It is the most popular essential oil and it is derived from a bushy plant that blooms throughout the summer and has pale violet leaves. It has the properties of improving digestion and reducing depression. It calms the nerves, relaxes the body and fights insomnia. It can be used in a warm bath or with a diffuser.
2)     Chamomile: This therapeutic essential oil is made from the flowers of the chamomile plant. If used as tea, it heals upset stomachs and as an aromatherapy scent it relaxes the nerves and provides sound sleep. Its fragrance is fruity and slightly sweet.
3)     Bergamot: It helps to relieve tension and provides relaxation. Since it is derived from citrus fruit rind, its citrus scent will refresh you and provide a sense of well-being.
4)     Sandalwood: Derived from the wood of sandalwood trees that are at least 40 years old, this essential oil is ideal for relieving nervous tension and for helping you to relax. The older the tree, the better will be the oil.
5)     Mandarin: Its essential oil has many advantages. It is very mild and can be used for children safely. It’s very successful against sleep disorders and helps to relax tensions.

Apart from the advantages of using individual aromatherapy scents, you can also use a combination of scents for achieving greater relaxation. Concoctions such as mixing lavender, bergamot and chamomile with a carrier oil like jojoba can provide wonderful aromatherapy benefits.

A final word of caution: When you buy essential oils, you should only go in for quality products that have the prescribed essential oil concentration so that you can get the benefits that you wish to have. Low price should not be the major criterion in your choice of aromatherapy scents.
