Properties of Essential Oils
Using aromatherapy recipes for attaining overall health of mind, body and soul, is an art in itself. You can hone this skill after years of practice in mixing various essential oils. For this, you must have a thorough knowledge about individual properties of each essential oil. Their fragrance category, their physical properties and the ailments they can cure, must be considered before preparing a blend.
The various categories in which the essential oils can be characterized according to their perfume are: floral, woodsy, earthy, mint, spicy, citrus, herbaceous and medicinal. The blends are created either within the same category of scent or by mixing two categories, which go well together. For example: Floral scents go well with citrus, spicy or woodsy scents; mint scents blend well with citrus, woodsy, earthy or herbaceous scents; woodsy is relatively a neutral scent that creates a unique blend with almost all the scent categories.
Further, you can also categorize them according to their nature. These oils can either be relaxing and comforting in nature or work at uplifting and energizing you. Lastly, their therapeutic use is considered before creating a blend or a recipe. All the essential oils have the power to cure one or more problems like aches and muscle pains, cold and flu, Bronchitis or asthma, acidity or indigestion, allergies, relaxation and stress reliever etc.
