Aromatherapy Massage - Rub Away Your Problems
Using essential oils from plant extracts for remedial purposes is called aromatherapy. It has the power to heal, relax and rejuvenate the body.
Aromatherapy massages are a great way of relaxation. These days, they are available in most health clinics and spas. They actually combine the great effects of aromatherapy and massage into one.
Understanding Aromatherapy, Massage & Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy is extremely effective, as it stimulates our sense of smell. Actually, the internal lining of our nose consists of millions of cells that can sense smell. These can also be called receptors. These are linked to that part of the brain, which controls our disposition and feelings. This explains why the smells of aromatherapy oils can have an influence on our emotions. They are safe to be used every single day by people of all ages.
Like Aromatherapy, massage is also used as an alternative method of treatment, since time immemorial. Direct touch of the massager to the patient’s nerves, helps a great deal in relaxing that part of the body. Not only the affected part, but the whole nervous system of the patient is stimulated by massage, thus improving circulation of blood. The improved circulation results in a better flow of oxygen and nutrients in the body.
Aromatherapy massage is a combination of aromatherapy and massage. It was started by Marguerite Maury of Austria. This powerful combination of two great arts of healing has the potential to treat problems at not only physical level but also at mental and spiritual level. For Aromatherapy massage, special blends are created for individuals to suit their individuality, by choosing from a vast range of essential oils.
Commonly Used Oils For Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy massage is carried out with essential oils, which are distilled from a lone plant resource such as the root, flower, seed, leaf, fruit or bark of a plant. There are various essential oils. While some of them can be safely used on anybody’s skin, most of them must be tested before, for sensitivity. Among the commonly used oils, Bergamot, Rose, Chamomile, Frankincense, Geranium, Lilac, Neroli, and Sandalwood are most popular. As the fragrance of these oils is widely liked and they are also non-irritating in nature, they are safe for use.
You must learn the right way to use the essential oils when using them for aromatherapy massage. These oils should never be used directly on the skin, as they are very concentrated. They have to be mixed with other oils, known as carrier oils. Some most commonly used carrier oils are: sweet almond, apricot kernel, grape seed oil, coconut oil etc. The mixture thus formed is called the blend or synergy. Synergy is considered more effective than the essential oil in its pure form.
Each essential oil has some special properties. They work as tranquilizers, pain killers, and germicides. The special blends or synergies that are created with one or more essential oils, each have a specific medicinal value. Used in aromatherapy massage, these blends can treat problems like stress, depression, fatigue, sleeplessness, muscular pains, arthritis etc. Lavender, Rosemary, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus are some oils, which blend perfectly with each other.
It is very important for all of us, to learn to relax and unwind. This automatically takes away the stress, which is the root cause of all ailments. Relaxation is a great fitness mantra, which can be easily achieved by way of aromatherapy massage.
